Town Smolyan is the central town of the Smolyan area.
Its citizens are over 34 500, and its altitude is between 850 - 1050 m.
ÑSmolyan is based in the central area of the Rhodope Mountains (a lot of antique authors perceive the
Rhodope Mountains as a holy Thracian mountain – the place where Orpheus is born), in the narrow defile of Cherna river.

46 km from town Devin and only 16 km south from the tourist winter resort Pamporovo.
